‘Aaron Evans Architects were selected in 2014 to be Architect on a project to re-cover the extensive roofs at Royal High School, Bath following a rigorous tender process. The works also comprised significant repairs to the external stone envelope, windows and rainwater goods. The project had added complexity due to the Grade II listed status of the buildings, the presence of bats on the site and the need to maintain normal school operations with particular regard to safety.

We found Aaron Evans’ knowledge of restoring listed buildings and their ability to communicate with the local authority Listed Building Officer and English Heritage was key to obtaining consent without difficulty. Aaron Evans were required not only to have the knowledge and expertise necessary to specify appropriate repairs to the listed buildings but also to work collaboratively to devise a suitable approach that would allow the works to take place in a phased manner whilst allowing the school to continue to operate. They also had to take into account the ecological issues. Finding a solution was no small task and the four-year programme of work that resulted, due to complete this October, has worked very well. The design information produced by Aaron Evans has been of a very high quality and during works on site we have also found Aaron Evans to be very thorough and organised in their approach to administering the contrtract.

.I have found Phil Mitchell and Kevin Murphy ro be very easy to work with, being personable and always responsive. I look forward to having further opportuntites to work with them'
