Alexander House presented a particular challenge. This area had been extensively bombed during the war and the intention was to extend the simple Georgian terrace without resorting to replica. The practice has experience of successfully reproducing Georgian architecture where it was appropriate, but this was an exercise, working within planning guidelines, to see if an appropriate scale of building, using the materials of the adjoining terrace, could make the transition to a more contemporary architecture. The development proposal was for flats and offices.
